Short day trips: Thermal springs at Casanay

Poza Paraíso:

Between the two villages Cariaco and Casanay is the “laguna de buena vista”. It’s on a plain full of mineral springs, a lot of small channels, great vegetation and a lot of coco haciendas. In one of these ex-coco haciendas, you can find the “Balneario Poza Paraíso”. It looks like a natural swimming pool surrounded by coco palms. There are no restaurants so bring your own food and drinks. Entrance fee: about $1.

Kokoland:

Another Balneario, that is also in an ex-coco hacienda. It is a very beautiful and well cared for place. It has a small zoo, a large pool and a separate kiddie pool. It is a great place to go with children. Entrance fee: US $3 p.p. You can bring your own food and drinks, but they also have a restaurant.

How to get there: 1. with a “por puesto” to Casanay that leaves from the market in Carúpano. From Casanay you can walk or go by taxi to Pantoño. A little further past Pantoño, in front of the power station, you will see the entrance. Poza Paraíso is the second one on the left side, and Kokoland is about 2 km along the road

2. with our transport: $15 one way, up to 4 people, each additional person: $3.50

Aguas de Moises

Hot springs, near Casanay:

Las aguas de Moíses:

This is another thermal springs balneario in the same area of the lagoon and it is the most spectacular one. It has 17 different baths and natural river beaches - some with small waterfalls – and all are in a natural setting. It is surrounded by a zoo and little lakes where you can go fishing.
