The money we use in Venezuela is the Bolívar. There are two different changing rates: the official one, which is fixed to the American Dollar and is 2150 Bolívares for each $. This rate is controlled by the regime and it does not represent the true worth of the Bolívar. There is another rate, the illegal one, and this depends on the international stock markets and other items. Anyway, when you come to Venezuela and bring only credit cards, they always will apply the official rate, and although everything is cheap in Venezuela, you will get less for your money. But take care, it is not legal to change money on the street, only in "casa de cambio".

Traveling and living in Venezuela is rather cheap. To get an idea, here some prices of goods to buy here. Anyway, prices change without logical reasons, so sometimes you pay more for an onion, than a steak.

An egg: Bs. 280, Tomatoes a kg: Bs. 2500, 1 l of milk: Bs. 2800, 1 kg of bread: Bs. 2880, 1,5 l mineral water: Bs. 2500, 1 l gas, the most expensive one: Bs. 97 (that's about 3,4 cents), a hammock: Bs. 50000 - 80000, a sack of cement: Bs. 12500, a bus trip (Caracas- Carupano): Bs. 45000, in plane: 230000, a little beer: Bs. 1800, a TV set: Bs. 350000.

These are some ideas to get an orientation. Don’t hesitate in write us, to ask for more details.
